Abstract: This comprehensive course syllabus and study guide provides a systematic introduction to the foundational concepts, historical developments, and theoretical frameworks that define the study of contemporary International Relations (IR). Designed for undergraduate students in political science and international studies, the curriculum is structured into 24 distinct lectures covering key historical inflection points—from the Peace of Westphalia (1648) and the Congress of Vienna (1815) to modern global security architectures. The text examines the evolution of international actors, highlighting the central role of the nation-state alongside non-state entities such as international organizations (IOs), multinational corporations (MNCs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and digital media networks. A major focus is placed on core IR paradigms, including Realism, Liberalism, Normative Idealism, Constructivism, Marxism, Feminist IR theory, and Critical Theory. Furthermore, the material explores critical concepts of power (hard, soft, smart, and cyber power), peace, conflict, regional integration, societal and human security, and contemporary transnational threats. Special attention is given to power transition dynamics, multilateral governance, and civilization-based global orders. Ultimately, this course equips students with the analytical tools necessary to critically evaluate power relations, international law, human rights, and global governance mechanisms within an increasingly complex and multipolar international system.
