10%. The objective of this study is to analyze the global and regional tourism market, focusing on the Mediterranean countries and some Maghreb countries (Algeria, Tunisia), in addition to highlight the position of tourism in each country through tourism competitiveness indicators. The study also aims to examine the impact of tourism on achieving sustainable development in the concerned countries, based on a descriptive and analytical approach to analyze data related to the two variables and using the panel data model (Panal ARDL) to measure this impact in Algeria and Tunisia. The study concluded that global tourism is experiencing rapid development, and Mediterranean countries are part of this evolution, which contributes positively to their economies, despite the disparities between the Northern and Southern countries and among the Maghreb countries. Furthermore, the study established the existence of a mutually integrative relationship between tourism's contribution and sustainable development in Algeria and Tunisia, and that tourism has a statistically significant impact on sustainable development. Finally, the results of the causality analysis indicate a unidirectional causal relationship between tourism revenues and the unemployment rate at the 5% significance level. A unidirectional causal relationship was also found between the number of tourist arrivals and the unemployment rate at the 5% significance level, as well as a unidirectional causal relationship between the number of tourist arrivals and per capita carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions at the 10% significance level. | en_US |
